"But they might invent..." Sure, maybe, but that puts it at least 3 decades out, likely longer, and we can't wait that long to dump fossils. So we'll still need synthetics in the shorter term.
I feel like you left out the best part at the top of the next page.
And I wonder if what you're talking about is a part of it. That you can't market the game mechanics, because they sell themselves. Or they don't and you can't fix that. So marketing in games is about everything that isn't the game.
And it still has value. It can still get people looking at the game that they would otherwise miss, so it's not like it's all about tricking a customer into buying something they don't need. (Though, that happens a lot too.) But it's forced to be separate from everything that makes a game a game.
For short, regional hops, yeah. For long flights it's an energy density problem. The most viable option is synthetic fuels. If we use captured carbon, it can still be carbon-neutral. But bateries are essentially DoA. We don't have even a hint of a battery that can get you 787 range and capacity.
