Six years ago today, the Cleveland Guardians signed Cade Smith (Abbotsford, B.C.) as an amateur free agent. That was some excellent scouting.
A baseball story that always makes me laugh:
Please take a moment to remember trailblazing Hall of Famer and former Montreal Expos coach Larry Doby who passed away 23 years ago today at the age of 79.

57 years ago today, Buck Martinez made his MLB debut with the Kansas City Royals. He pinch-hit for catcher Ellie Rodriguez in the bottom of the ninth inning and flied out to centre field against Oakland A's right-hander Chuck Dobson in the Royals' 16-4 loss.

Happy 41st Birthday to Chris Coghlan! He played 36 games for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017, but we remember him most for this one play:
"I led the league in go get 'em next time." -- Bob Uecker, the self-deprecating former catcher and longtime Brewers broadcaster. Uecker hit .200 in parts of six MLB seasons from 1962 to 1967.
25 years ago today, Stubby Clapp (Windsor, Ont.) made his MLB debut with the St. Louis Cardinals. The 36th round pick pinch-hit for Mike Timlin in the eighth inning and struck out against Cubs righty Todd Van Poppel but was still given a standing ovation by fans at Busch Stadium.
