An observation I do not see talked about much in feminist/masculinities discourse is the degree to which the notion that it’s unmanly to be emotional likely arises, historically, from the number of men who have reacted to experiencing strong emotions by doing violence.
Anthropic is doing this because they think they might actually build the Singularity (or failing that, get AI on an ever-accelerating trajectory) and they're wrong.
Physical & economic constraints are biting harder and harder even as shocking new capabilities develop.
I mean given the trajectory of open weight models I’d be astounded if we have to wait more than 18 months for them to get caught up
I mean, it's not gonna even work. This is a bandaid that'll only modestly slow distillation down.
I guess that's useful when AI is advancing really fast but this barrier will be utterly meaningless the moment the next AI winter hits (even if it's just slow advancement rather than stagnation).
i am in the open faction. i would like to be in a safety faction but i think the safety faction that actually exists is wrong about everything that matters
the part where they say they're going to silently sabotage us based on completely opaque criteria
