Today's Government Accountability Office report on ICE's Camp East Montana is scandalous:
- Evidence of a homicide was destroyed or went missing
- Detainees with HIV and diabetes were not given treatment plans
- Cells were filthy and only cleaned weekly
- A guard lost a loaded gun in the facility
More alarming reports emerging about the nation's largest ICE detention facility, Camp East Montana, located in my hometown, El Paso, TX.

According to the report, "In January 2026, a contract security guard at Camp East Montana lost their loaded firearm at the facility." (!!!!)
"According to an ICE official, despite several searches of the facility, as of March 2026 the firearm had not been recovered." /2
The report found that ICE and the Army wasted over $18 MILLION at Camp East Montana by overpaying for a variety of services. /3
In January, a man detained by ICE died at the facility in what the coroner ruled a homicide.
This new report says "the contractor did not provide use of force and death reports to ICE, as required. In addition, evidence associated with the incident was missing or destroyed." /4
The report identified "serious performance and oversight challenges at Camp East Montana," including that the facility was opened without meeting some of ICE's own standards.
