So perhaps this is curmudgeonly, but I just find it really hard to respect that 'speculative nonfiction' approach.
It's one thing to say, 'the evidence could bear this other interpretation.'
But another thing to say 'the evidence can't be this interpretation, but wouldn't it be neat if it could?'
