We have already seen (keep seeing) this dynamic in France: anti-Muslim policies justified in the language of “neutrality” or “public order” 'laïcité" progressively become broader restrictions affecting everyone else.
But because the restriction was drafted broadly, it now also bans other garments such as UV-protective swimwear worn for medical or health reasons🫠.
A measure politically aimed at Muslim women is presented as “neutral,” yet its real purpose remains obvious. And once such exceptional restrictions are normalized against one minority, they inevitably expand beyond their original target (and affect everybody).
Anti-Muslim racism never remains limited to its initial target. Once fundamental freedoms become conditional for one group, they become weaker for everyone.
Why anyone would do that? Who in their right mind would use such a feature? What's next? Connecting ChatGPT to your medical record?
