The only thing I actually agree with in that new thread is that the way D&D is designed and the culture of play around it encourages the "it's all the GM's job" attitude. But yeah, it's mostly shit-flinging.
I'm seeing multiple people in my TTRPG bubble list G+ too. And my one and only experience with G+ was immediately running into a hobby space filled almost exclusively with cartoonishly repulsive misogynist gamer bros. I backed out SO FAST, and haven't looked at anything TTRPG related for a decade.
Jay I'm on a Teams call at work
I'm sure it wasn't all like that, but that's the corner the initial search brought me to and I didn't feel like risking a second attempt without a map.
So seeing "oh, I thought it was JUST translation" is so frustrating. What do you mean "just"? The quality of that translation is a factor for the entire narrative and UI of your game! Do you want half the world to think you absolutely suck at writing, or get stuck on a mistranslated quest?
I've been mad for over a decade that no one pays for basic translations anymore. Using AI tools for ANYTHING that gets published or used as official text is just depressingly stupid. You're just taking it on faith that the text in a language you can't read is good enough to put your name under it?
And I think this is going to be disastrous for discoverability of new authors/artists. Because people who don't want to see that shit in their entertainment will stick with the outfits with proven history of human creativity, and everyone else will be dismissed as a bot until proven otherwise.
Oh god what is it now? We already had "illiterate gamers discourse" and "combat is boring discourse", what's this one about?
Ah, I see, we're continuing the Illiterate Gamers one.
I've got three main reasons for pushback in this area. 1 - it's giving money to The Worst People. The 2 - if you go all-in, you'll eventually make your code impossible to parse and maintain by a human, so you'll have to continue paying The Worst People. 3 - you're killing your early talent pipeline.
