Game workers do not receive any residuals/royalties on shipped titles and shipping bonuses are increasingly rare. There's also no guarantee that your name will even be in the credits if you leave before ship, and studios will use this to keep you compliant.
All of this can and should change.

Note that the workers who made Beast Breaker ARE getting rev-share on sales of the game on Steam, even though the studio shut down. Why? Because we had a union, and we negotiated for it.

Unionize all the way, and unions should work to ensure royalties for all devs.
Even better, if you get the chance, create or join a worker co-op, and make it so you don't have to negotiate with any bosses. Negotiate with your fellow workers about the right way to do things instead.
