Seeing the @ec.europa.eu bend over backwards to support a for-profit closed source ID-gated social network is really quite something.
Obviously they've either learned nothing from dealing with Meta & X/Twitter over the past decade, or they want to replicate them but have control over it.
this thread is an excellent, detailed look at some of the data protection issues around W Social and the connections between the various legal entities and people involved, sourced from publicly available information
@ec.europa.eu any thoughts on W Identity's recent security vulnerability, poor response, and lack of appropriate means for security researchers to disclose vulnerabilities?

So I've been trying to understand the legal structure that W Social has to better understand the separation between W Identity and W Social, and it's quickly looking like it's all for show.
So now there are two main European atproto providers (PDS and client), one is open source and one is closed source.
Very concerned that the EU talks about how important OSS is, and then they pick the closed source one :/
I looked at a few accounts there though and unlike on Bluesky and afaict Eurosky, there was only one rotation key attached, which iinm means there's no airgapped recovery key.
To me that's probably the most concerning part about government accounts being hosted on there right now.

also it is completely bonkers that @bsky.app requires you to select a "Hosting Provider" on login and i have to remember whatever @eurosky.social's address is. guys, if you want this decentralization thing to happen, it should not suck so much to use! the Bluesky app should just read it from my DID
They removed it quickly 😳
