Dogs are welcome with their owners at a homeless shelter in Brazil
I grew up in Northern Ireland during the conflict. I was nearly murdered once and hospitalised twice. I covered the Troubles as a reporter. Be in no doubt: this is frightening & real. Violence in Northern Ireland is of a type that folk in England, Scotland and Wales don’t understand. This scares me.
Perfectly sums up my summer of discontent with the World Cup, my favorite sporting event since I was old enough to remember. As I live in a host city, hoping to catch some spontaneous joy with tourists outside of the stadium.

I’m not going to pretend to be the world’s biggest soccer fan, but I do love global sporting events like the World Cup and the Olympics. And this piece by @lebassett.bsky.social nails the disgraceful, dumb, and racist bullshit we are pulling as a host country. open.substack.com/pub/laurabas...
not loving the way this worldwide game of mad libs is turning out
Nervously watching what's unfolding in Belfast as racist bigots use a stabbing as an excuse to wreck havoc and mayhem, burning cars & buses, homes, and businesses of ethnic minority residents
Meanwhile, Elon Musk is doing his best to escalate the violence. This is a good 🧵 of his efforts on Twitter
What a weird fucking question

Locking fans, team staffers and even referees out of the country for the biggest sporting event in the world is embarrassing, insulting, and financially stupid.
