Bird wins favourite butterfly poll! www.theguardian.com/environment/...
Lovely review of my new book, Eat The Planet Well, in the Lancet today, but sadly most of it is behind a paywall.
Did u know? Planting Alder Buckthorn has enabled me to support the whole metamorphic cycle of the Brimstone butterfly. The larvae are fussier eaters than adults,so if you find out what they feed on, you'll be duly rewarded. Some pics from my B.B's metamorphic lifecycle - eggs, larvae, adult. πŸŒΏπŸŒ±πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸ›πŸ¦‹

Did u know? It's worthwhile pointing out who this mini garden beastie is as lots of folks don't get the connection, 'cos they look so different to the adults, but this is a 🐞larva. They're quirky insects that walk like alligators(true!)& they're great to have in yr gardens 'cos they eat aphids. πŸŒΏπŸŒ±πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸžπŸͺ²
Did u know? After being inspired by @benjyhere.bsky.social seeing various male Melitta bees asleep in his Campanula flowers,I've been keeping an eager eye on my blooms, hoping to see the same sight. So far, only slumbering Silver Y Moth -not a bad "second place" though. I want a Campanula bed πŸŒΏπŸŒ±πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸͺ²πŸ¦‹πŸ

Did u know? Damselflies are amongst the most colourful insects in our gardens, but when they first emerge, after developing as nymphs in water for a couple of years, their exoskeleton is really soft & along with that, their colour is very milky too. This stage is called "teneral". πŸŒΏπŸŒ±πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸͺ²

Did u know? The easiest thing to do to yr garden to rewild it is to rewild your patio. Patios need a lot of control to keep plants from self-seeding between cracks in the slabs & they're blasted with jet washers, but if you stop all of that & welcome in the plants, then all life will follow. πŸŒ±πŸŒΏπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸͺ²πŸ¦β€β¬›
