kids need and have a RIGHT to community and safe access to information, even and especially information that their parents might want to restrict from them (e.g., seeking help for abuse, queer and trans survival, etc.) no, it doesn't "have to happen." kids have a right to participate in public life

There may be worse and better ways of keeping kids off of social media, but it needs to happen. If that ruins social media for the rest of us, so be it.

Age gating the internet is not about protecting kids. It's entirely about creating an ID barrier for everyone as a form of tracking and privacy invasion putting our data in the hands of private companies that have already proven insecure. This only hyperfuels scammers and makes everyone less safe.
