billionaires all want a higher real gross annual income, while I find their annual income real gross
A key policy takeaway: environmental values do not exist in a vacuum, and may evolve with wider changes in societal circumstances.

Consider the study as the first single of my upcoming album (PhD thesis) on people's economic preferences for the natural environment, and how to design policies that account for these preferences. Watch this space, heh :)

Our study asks: do people's preferences for ecosystem services change over five years? We administered the same survey on ecosystem damage prevention in 2015 and 2020, with many people participating twice. With the rich data, we assess both whether and why values changed over time.

We find that the value of preventing ecosystem damage did change over the five-year period, but not dramatically. Importantly, most of the variation over time is explained by changes in people's underlying preferences (as opposed to changes in age, income, or other observable characteristics).
