The essence of all the Russia stuff from the first campaign and first term was that Trump was an insider threat to the US, NATO, the UN, etc.—a manifest danger to the whole complex of post-WWII arrangements to defend free societies, stave off world wars, and advance the cause of human rights.

Amazingly the Hegseth-picked press isn’t asking him tough questions in an attempt to hold his feet to the fire, hold power accountable, and inform the public. They’re asking these basic questions because they assume Hegseth knows what he’s doing, is succeeding, and will therefore have good answers.

essential to the "Joe Rogan of the left" idea is that the personality has nonpartisan and crossover appeal, because the "Joe Rogan" idea is that he was getting apolitical or centrist men to vote for Republicans Hasan, who hates Democrats and is doing glow up vids for communist regimes, is not that

I agree but would also stress that this is not universal; it would be both accurate and Good to say that about the Republican Party, and we should be hearing every level of Democratic politicians saying it

That's how the worst things start getting normalized - with claims that everything is bad and they are no worse. That's what people calling everything they dislike "fascism" achieve - they provide cover for the actual fascism as nothing too extreme or extraordinary.

MARCO RUBIO: These people are lunatics. They are insane STEPHANOPOULOS: You call then 'lunatics,' but Trump just posted that 'we're in discussions with a new and more reasonable regime'

Continue to be amazed that Hegseth's hand-picked press corps asks basic, tough questions about the war (that he can't answer). We are so far beyond "you know this war is bad because John Bolton is against it."

I think it's bad that the deputy White House chief of staff goes on television and claims that “the Democratic Party has decided that its mission, its purpose in life, is to dissolve the Republic that we enjoy, not only our way of life, our history, our citizenry, our rights, our freedoms.”

If nothing else, redefining fascism to include the modern nation-state and free-market capitalism seems to render it pretty much useless as a term, purely categorically.

It's so hilarious: Dems have spent the last several years in garment-rending anxiety over their need for a "left Joe Rogan" to appeal to young men online. Now there is one -- literally, one (1) -- and the party has immediately fallen to vicious infighting over it. We couldn't even make it to 2.
