#Visual #salience generation involves center-surround dynamics, but what performs these computations? This study shows that the #SuperiorColliculus encodes center-surround dynamics under isolated conditions, and provides insights into the circuit implementation @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/4n7RpsA
The ‘go’ and ‘no-go’ pathways in the basal ganglia are not the only pathways that control movement, as a new study reveals two additional circuits that modulate dopamine and movement. By @claudia-lopez.bsky.social #neuroskyence www.thetransmitter.org/basal-gangli...
first thing to share here! excited to share lab’s first study in Parkinson’s disease revealing the prodromal vulnerability and function of the dopamine neuron subtype defined by Anxa1 expression - a specialized system controlling procedural motor learning www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Save the date and join us for a webinar about cholinergic interneurons, hosted by the Swedish Basal Ganglia Society. We are excited to have two distinguished speakers: Stephanie Cragg and Mark Howe. Everyone is welcome and no registration is required! swebags.ebrains.se/events/choli...
(first post in this platform) happy to share our new paper on visual-based center-surround interactions in the superior colliculus, showcasing a general approach to dissect local circuit computations. @NeuroAlc

Lazaridis et al. delineate a previously unrecognized pair of striosomal direct D1 and indirect D2 circuits that target substantia nigra dopamine-containing neurons, controllers of mood, action, and reinforcement learning. These striosomal circuits have effects opposing those of the canonical D1-direct/D2-indirect pathways, likely modulating them.
