IT’S OFFICIAL: After passing the House (unanimously) and the Senate, Crash Data Reform is heading to the desk of Gov. McKee!
Massive thank you to the volunteer led effort that started it all, & the dedicated leaders @meghankallman.bsky.social @rebeccakislak.bsky.social who carried it to the finish!
The General Assembly today voted to approve legislation from Senator @meghankallman.bsky.social and Representative José F. Batista to protect those attending court proceedings in Rhode Island from arrest by ICE or other federal immigration authorities.

Half the population menstruates. But: one in four people struggle to purchase period products due to lack of income. This is called “Period Poverty”, and chances are, we all know someone who has experienced it.
Huge thanks to Amenity Aid for always showing up in RI to help address this need.
Anchors Away Brass Band is thrilled to be back at Providence Porchfest this year! Catch us this Saturday at 3:30 on 6th Street❣️
When someone is battling a threatening disease, getting their utilities shut off is wantonly cruel. It is unnecessary. Rhode Island used to lead the nation in protections for utility consumers, and Rep. Cruz and I have a bill to make that true again: www.bostonglobe.com/2026/05/08/m...
#YIGBY sails unanimously through the Rhode Island Senate! The bill allows faith-based organizations to develop affordable housing on its land, part of our goal of developing reuses for the many emptying houses of worship across the state and creating more affordable places for people to live.
BOOM! Benchmarking passes the Senate overwhelmingly! This a major step towards meeting our Act on Climate goals. Thanks to ECRI and the many environmental advocates who have made this a priority, and to my stellar colleague, @rebeccakislak.bsky.social , for stewarding it through the House.
Very proud that several of my priority bills made it across the finish line this year, including the crash data bill, and Protect our Courts, both featured in this @globeri.bsky.social roundup: www.bostonglobe.com/2026/06/11/m...
I’ve been working with @neighborswelcomeri.bsky.social and a bunch of wonderful fellow legislators and housing nerds across the country for the last six months on this bill, and I’m very proud that it was voted out of committee last night. Next stop: Senate floor! #housing #yigby
The Seriously Ill Protection Plan would put physicians in charge of making a medical determination whether to pause payment, not the state, write R.I. lawmakers.
@meghankallman.bsky.social said 42 states make crash data available to the public showing federal law is not a barrier. “You can’t manage what you don’t measure and we need data like this to make better public policy about transit, pedestrian safety, investments."

The House and Senate also passed three bills in response to ICE actions, prohibiting civil arrests at R.I. courthouses without a valid judicial warrant.
While an overhaul of the Access to Public Records Act appears doomed, advocates hope for passage of legislation providing public access to statewide crash data.
