Insane self-blinding of the US. They are throwing away their investment in the ocean observation system and the benefits it provides.
The only explanation I can think of: they don’t want the people to know what their fossil emissions are doing to our oceans.

Is that they keep denying offshore wind permits, which are a critical solution to climate change, because they falsely claim it’s bad for whales
But then they keep doing things that actually will kill whales
I got to experience this today.
We burn trash in Northern Virginia, 1M tons a year at this Lorton facility. Trash does not just 'go away' - it comes here and leaves as reclaimed metal scrap, ash, and stack exhaust.

It's only worth going back to the Moon if it makes us look properly again at Earth, and appreciate how beautiful, precious and fragile what we have here is. The most famous images from Apollo aren't about the Moon - they're pictures of Earth. We need to stop taking our home for granted.

Following yet another storm battering our coasts last weekend, pressure mounts on coastal communities to discuss relocation.
The context of this is that Trump just opened up the three remaining marine national monuments to destructive industrial fishing.
The monuments recognize the Indigenous Pacific voyaging legacy. They also support endangered marine wildlife and protect whales, sea turtles, and seabirds.
