đź’ĄThe Government has committed to the reforms that we have been calling for.
Thank you @michaelshanksmp.co.uk, Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero, for stating in the House of Commons this week that the Government will establish local supply rights for community energy groups.
On Saturday the drizzle cleared for a bright and hopeful Climate and Nature Fair organised by Tunbridge Wells CAN. 🌳
It was a pleasure to speak to so many passionate people about the impacts of community energy and grassroots advocacy.
“It is vital that we embrace community energy and bring local communities along with us as we transition away from fossil fuels.”
This welcome statement from Gagan Mohindra MP captures the role of community energy in building an fairer energy system for our communities and our environment.
Power for People will have a stall at the first Tunbridge Wells Climate and Nature Fair on Saturday 13th September.
📍 Calverley Park Grounds, 10am-5pm.
Come and talk to us about enabling community-led energy! 🌞
On 16th September, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, articulated the strategic priorities for Great British Energy.
We welcome several mentions of community energy, reaffirming Government support for local-led clean power.
Our thanks to @pippaheylings.bsky.social for championing community energy in Parliament with four formal Parliamentary Questions put to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
🚨 Watch the Government confirm, in the House of Commons, that they will enable community energy groups to sell the power they generate directly to local people.

Thank you Jess Brown Fuller MP, for standing up in the House of Commons and asking the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, if he agrees that the right to local supply would enable community energy groups to prosper.
In response, Ed Miliband said, “Great British Energy is going to partner with local communities to deliver community energy up and down the country,” ... “I want to assure her that we are going through the different barriers in granular, nerdy detail to see how we can break them down.”
Our thanks to Sir Jeremy Wright MP, for asking a fantastic question in the House of Commons on 15 July, enquiring into the Government’s plans to enable community-led energy groups to sell power locally.
The Minister’s response was clear. The Government is committed to making this a reality.
