That increased versatility of the genetic code through alternate mRNA processing is generally deleterious is why I think we should award a Nobel to Joan Steitz and Lynne Maquat for “the elucidation of the molecular grammar of the genetic code and it’s importance in mRNA quality control.” Overdue.
