Forgive me, but I would suggest that Bloomberg's premise - if even the UK, "no democracy was immune to nationalism" - was in itself exceptionalist thinking. Britiain has always been nationalistic, not exceptional. It just hid it better, with good marketing. A 🧵

Brexit did more than pull Britain out of Europe. It showed that no democracy was immune to populist nationalism.
