The first time my dad visited my current place he arrived an hour earlier than expected, let himself in with a spare key, and walked upstairs where I was still asleep.
My dog's only response? Moving from her bedroom (the nursery attached to mine) to my bed.
But a baby opossum? Guard dog mode
I once woke up to the most ferocious growing I've ever heard from this dog and raced downstairs, expecting a major threat.
It was a baby opossum on the porch outside, super tiny and pressed against the window.
So grateful my dog protects us from helpless tiny animals 🙃
Just over the moon to get skunked directly in the face, and so very sad that I immediately cancelled our evening plans to bathe us both
This post brought to you by the extremely non-threatening Virginia Opossum eating bird seed in the yard (holding my dog as she shakes)
My dog's nervous around large wildlife (understandable), careful around small ones (knows she shouldn't scare), excited by skunks (stinky)
and just TERRIFIED of opossums
she's a formal feral, loves rolling in stinky roadkill. I bet she rolled on a "dead" opossum once and she thinks they're zombies
Throwback to the happiest day of her life, when I was supposed to be going to comfort a bunch of trans youth in rural Ohio right after the 2024 election and instead we walked out into a garage with an extremely stressed skunk (scared of the other dogs already outside)
