it's such a flexible concept to work with that it's a shame that the popular conception of it is something someone uses to shut down arguments
the discourse surrounding this privileges the "chud" interpretation of the phrase (complete nullification of the author) when barthes' eventual point later in the text (that the author is "reborn" as a reader of their own work) almost stands in opposition to it imo
*accentuates it for me anyway
