I just returned from two back-to-back conferences. Students, I noticed that a lot of your slide decks had an oddly similar layout structure and I was able to confirm in conversations that these were AI-generated/assisted.
Some thought about this for your own professional development: š§µ
Just refereed my first substantially AI generated paper for a good journal. Even with tougher desk rejection standards these things can look convincing until you start to look more closely and it all falls apart. Pretty bleak!
Standard Error friends and fans! Both of our partners @o.simardcasanova.net and @sameyler.bsky.social will be attending the CEPRāPSE Policy Forum in Paris next week. If youāll be there too please come say hi š
š¢ #CallforPapers & Save-the-date: The 5th Kiel-CEPR Conference on Geoeconomics will take place in Berlin at the German Federal Foreign Office. Keynotes: Arvind Krishnamurthy & Carmen Reinhart. We are thrilled to welcome Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul!

I feel like this is one of the most valuable pieces of advice for young academics. Know how much time you will have; practice making your presentation in exactly that time.
I spoke too soon.
š Looking forward to welcoming participants to Exeter for the 4th edition of the Diversity and Human Capital Workshop @exeter.ac.uk!
š¢ Keynote speakers: @cynthiakinnan.bsky.social and @essobecker.bsky.social.
