Images have power.
How would you think about the heatwave if this image was of elderly people in a stuffy care home, roofers or builders sweating at work, or a hospital ward with nurses helping patients sip water?
And it on top of this, it was also great fun and so nice to reconnect with such an interesting and diverse team of researchers and practitioners! Here's hoping we can continue working together in the future!
A small ask from us: if your professional work touches large carnivores anywhere in Europe (management, research, advocacy, policy, fieldwork) please consider taking our survey. We're trying to understand coexistence from a social-ecological perspective.

Are you into molecular ecology and bioinformatics? If the answer is yes, then you should totally apply for this position with @ainhoamagrach.bsky.social and co. The lab is next door to my office and they're a great and supportive team working on super interesting topics.
We made progress with some exciting, applied science that will hopefully help to solve with real-world problems related to estimating restoration effectiveness and the use of different forms of knowledge in restoration practice and policy.
I ran out of steam to post about our @britishecologicalsociety.org funded workshop on forest restoration in Piracicaba, Brazil... However, reflecting on it a month later, it was a fantastic event that really helped to open my eyes to restoration in different contexts.

That’s called a bribe.

Temperatures are expected to hit 35C in parts of England on Monday, in an “unprecedented” May heatwave.
The Met Office is already predicting that records will be broken. A spokesperson said: “Today will be the hottest day in May in the UK in our temperature records, with highs of 35C expected. The current May record is 32.8C. Records are usually only broken by tenths of a degree, making this heatwave unprecedented for the time of year.” Continue reading...
