It’s the lost momentum that makes me sad.
The primary school-aged kids I know, *were* watching Ncuti Gatwa. They’re not talking about it now.
It wasn’t the continuity references (big demon God who knows the Doctor, cool!). It’s that there isn’t new content and they’ve moved on.
Trying not to be maudlin, but I think my perspective comes from being 7 years old in 1989. The difference made by even 3 (or 7!) years without it. The series stopping before you’ve grown out of it, and you’re not a kid when it comes back.
3 weeks ago London was an *actual* no-go zone. We didn’t take our son out because a mixed race child and his desi mother would have been screamed at (or worse) by literal fascists.
Too bad, too old, too Welsh.
If ever I’m tempted to present myself as a mature person of taste and intelligence, I will remember that:
- In the past three months I have spent an hour queuing for banana pudding and an afternoon watching Warriors of the Deep.
- I regret neither.
My parents did a lot of Commonwealth events in the 1970, so they hung out with Pierre and Margaret Trudeau. There’s a photograph somewhere of my brother and Justin Trudeau playing together in their little formal suits like they were at the kids table at a wedding.

This is something I wrote before the now unannounced Christmas special was announced and I have very little to add. Reversion to meme. To coin a phrase.
