🌿 This sprig of wild mignonette (Reseda lutea) was picked from a cornfield near Horseheath, Cambridgeshire, in 1784 – and it still survives today in a remarkable herbarium compiled by Edward Hanmer.

A pleasure to read a very thoughtful review of my book Reading the World by Isabelle Charmantier, head of Collections @linneansociety.bsky.social in The Book Collector.
The review is here (summer 2026): thebookcollector.co.uk/recent-issues/ And the book here: upittpress.org/books/978082...
Seeing the evening light through the memorial window to Leonard Jenyns (1800-93) in his former church at Swaffhan Bulbeck yesterday. Jenyns was the original choice for the naturalist to accompany the second Beagle voyage but could not due to parish duties. Charles Darwin was his replacement.
Yes, it was a great pleasure to speak for this!
Fantastic to see Charles Darwin's hands in a copy of Claud Warren's The Life-size Outlines of the Hands of Twenty -four Celebrated Persons (1882) on @debscoltham.bsky.social's stall at Firsts Rare Book Fair at the Saatchi Gallery yesterday! @abararebooks.bsky.social
