🦠 The #PROTOCELL experiment is heading into space! The project led by @hlouchova-lab.bsky.social & @pluskal-lab.org at IOCB Prague is one of 13 Czech scientific and technological experiments supported by @esa.int that will become part of the now confirmed mission of Czech astronaut Aleš Svoboda.
The aim of the experiment is to find out whether the conditions for the emergence of the first cells depend on gravity or not. Tthe team will send small incubators into space, where solutions of RNA and peptides will automatically mix and — hopefully — form droplets resembling protocells.
A built-in microscope will observe them in microgravity for several hours. The samples will then be frozen for examination after their return to Earth. #Ceskacestadovesmiru #UOCHB #IOCB #IOCBPrague
