Feminist, relentless abortion rights advocate, foodie, world traveller, music lover, childless cat lady, proud Coloradan with Texas roots. Molly Ivins & Diane Nash are my heroes. The Chicks song "The Long Away Around" pretty well covers it.

I had a miscarriage in a wanted pregnancy. The fetus wasn't completely expelled. I had to have a D and C which my medical records referred to as "an abortion."
"GRAND JUROR: I heard this case like last week and I thought it was a crock of shit then and I still think it is."
Jilani's ignorant premise ignores *all* abortion bans are about power, not life. It rests on the premise politicians can magically ban 'bad' abortions for women who don't 'deserve' them. You know, like slutty sluts who get knocked up after a one night stand & who must stay pregnant as punishment.
this is why I don't think that just ignoring these takes will make them go away. they aren't really trying to troll the left per se. they are appealing to a mainstream audience which finds moral panics about marginalized ppl fun/exciting/scary. 1

You can have an abortion for wanted pregnancy. Medically speaking, spontaneous abortion - miscarriage - is identical to induced abortion. Exact same drugs and procedures are used. And if we've learned anything since Dobbs, when politicians interfere, suffering and tragedy ensues.
I work on the daily with abortion providers. I do not give a chicken fried fuck what Ezra Klein, Ross Douthat, Zaid Jilani, or any dude who has zero experience with the politics or policy of abortion rights thinks. Why does the @nytimes.com @nytopinion.nytimes.com give them space?
Something tells me "We've been kicking ass by not compromising on abortion rights and access in Colorado, here's how other states can too" would be rejected out of hand by @nytimes.com @nytopinion.nytimes.com
Voters understand that. And abortion bans are killing women. There's no compromise here. thegepi.org/maternal-mor...

Or women who decide after five months of vomiting and swollen ankles they've somehow changed their mind. Medical science and public policy don't work that way. Pregnancy isn't static. A pregnancy can be fine and healthy one minute & life threatening the next. Doctors decide that, not politicians.
I try not to swear in public (my kids see my social media) but @jenrubin.bsky.social is dead on the money here

The case revolved around a September protest and collapsed last month amid revelations of apparent prosecutorial misconduct during the grand jury proceedings.

So @nytopinion.nytimes.com ? Why the hell was Zaid Jilani, who has ZERO professional expertise or experience on abortion, given space to write about it in the New York Times? It's not just wrong, it's insulting. We've won doing everything he says not to do. We don't polls. We have actual votes.
