If I were a cynical political operator, I’d say it’s playing politics to bring the Temu version of an amendment that actually fights for labor so you can save face when you lack the vision and courage to save city jobs and services, but what do I know.
Not really true in my experience, many organizers are elders who have done this work since their 20s.
The idea that young working class people have more reach in politics is also laughable if you look at who lobbies, who gets elected, who votes, etc

There is a problem with the stories we tell & the way we perceive how change happens. The Union of Pinnacle Tenants, the largest tenant-led union in NYC—are the reason Mamdani took action. Organized people power is pivotal. Top down stories of elected heroes (even ones we like) are not sufficient.

You are correct about out-organized. The organizing by the DSA is what is is bc the people who join are mostly young single people with marginal work and time on their hands. The DSA doesn't represent more than a slice of portland and its councilors represent the DSA, not their district.
