If I were a cynical political operator, I’d say it’s playing politics to bring the Temu version of an amendment that actually fights for labor so you can save face when you lack the vision and courage to save city jobs and services, but what do I know.
Someone (not pointing fingers) had edited the Portland City Council Wikipedia page to label Peacock as the majority.
This person either has a vested interest in labeling the mod squad as an oppressed minority or is unable to understand that 6/12 is not greater than 50%.
There is a problem with the stories we tell & the way we perceive how change happens. The Union of Pinnacle Tenants, the largest tenant-led union in NYC—are the reason Mamdani took action. Organized people power is pivotal. Top down stories of elected heroes (even ones we like) are not sufficient.
This budget amendment just failed in a 6-6 tie.
Councilors Avalos, Dunphy, Green, Kanal, Koyama Lane, Morillo voted yes. Councilors Clark, Novick, Pirtle-Guiney, Ryan, Smith, Zimmerman voted no.

The sale of the Blazers is expected to bring in millions of dollars. So if we do this pause, we can have a real process with labor to figure out “efficiencies.” The top down approach did not deliver, and a 3 hour last minute “labor summit” does not offer meaningful engagement on a huge change
Not really true in my experience, many organizers are elders who have done this work since their 20s.
The idea that young working class people have more reach in politics is also laughable if you look at who lobbies, who gets elected, who votes, etc
Just admit your faves have room for improvement
I can’t even type properly because I’m so nosy about people falling in love 😂
