Blog alert! It's #tsql2sday again! Here are my thoughts on migration back to on-premises.
What if there wasn't a Cloud? Here is my #tsql2sday post for this month.
2022: design is dead! 2023: designers will all be replaced! 2024: you won't be replaced by an LLM, but by someone using the LLM! 2025: juniors will be replaced and AI will be surpervised by seniors! 2026 so far: It costs **HOW MUCH?!**

Alt: A cartoon of two sailors with shovels standing each at the side of a pile of money in front of a burning furnace. They are shovelling the money into the furnace with furious intent. An analogy to the current rage and money fueled haste of the tech industry to burn as much money as possible in the name of some sort of progress. I am not sure if the sailors know where the ship is going, but it doesn't matter, does it? What matters is to shovel as much money as possible into the furnace.

If You Had to Go Back On-Prem… #tsql2sday For T-SQL Tuesday #199, Koen Verbeeck posed an excellent question: if your company moved up to the cloud, but after migrating, had to come back on-premises, what would be the big problems? I've had clients in this exact situation! Here are some of my…

Happy #tsql2sday! This month is talking about going from cloud to on-prem. Here are my thoughts on the subject.

Cloud work is like assembling a model kit. On-prem was Lego with no instructions. If I had to go back, there's one skill I'd need to completely relearn. It's not what you'd expect. www.arcticdba.se/posts/t-sql-... #On-prem #Cloud #Skills #tsql2sday
This month the invitation from Koen asks what would happen if we came back from the cloud. Back to On-Prem. Cloud solutions have sliders which magically reduce downtime, performance issues, and acc…

This month, Koen Verbeeck invites the blogging community to write about their thoughts on returning to on-premises. What could be struggles, things we have to re-learn, etcetera. When I read the invite, it immediately sparked inspiration, because there are increasing rumours around cloud exits. People musing about 'what if'. Some clients reference these questions, but so far no one has directly asked me one with the intent of moving forward with it.

T-SQL Tuesday #199: Back to on-prem?
This month’s T-SQL Tuesday topic is a bit of a thought experiment from Koen Verbeeck (blog | bluesky) where he asks us to consider “what would happen if suddenly your company or your cl…

For T-SQL Tuesday #199, Koen Verbeeck posed an excellent question: if your company moved up to the cloud, but after migrating, had to come back on-premises, what would be the big problems? I've had clients in this exact situation! Here are some of my favorite gotchas from those experiences. Buying hardware is really hard right now. AI companies have sucked up all of the available cheap hardware, and the remaining stuff is expensive, hard-to-get, and often delayed.
This month we have a very interesting invitation from Koen Verbeeck. He has hosted once before, and agreed to help me out this month by tackling another topic. We’ve shared a few beers in the EU, though not in some time, so I hopefully will get the chance to buy him a pint and thank him for this month’s invite.voiceofthedba.com
A good week ago I hosted the monthly T-SQL Tuesday blog party. I invited the community the blog about the idea of what would happen if we would need to go back on-premises, after a good decade of clou...

Happy T-SQL Tuesday! Our host this month is Koen Verbeeck (see his T-SQL Tuesday invitation here) Koen asks an interesting question: So, dear reader, I want you to think about what would happen if suddenly your company or your client asks to build everything on-prem again (or maybe a hybrid architecture). My first reaction to this sentence was: Oh look, he assumes that everyone is in the cloud…
