Cooperatively-bound tau inhibits kinesin-1 (KIF5B) motility, and inhibition is relieved by phosphorylation. In contrast, kinesin-3 (KIF1A) is strongly inhibited by both phosphoresistive and phosphomimetic tau.
Help me spread the word about an opening for the Furino Chair in Bioengineering in the Department of Bioengineering at McGill University. We seek candidates focused on developing biotherapeutic approaches to cancer, including but not limited to mRNA vaccines, CAR-T, and immunotherapy. (1/3)

Our recent work showing that tau phosphorylation alters cooperative binding and organelle transport in neurons is now posted at @elife.bsky.social. A big thanks to the reviewers and editors for their thoughtful assessment. doi.org/10.7554/eLif...

Tau phosphorylation also relieves inhibition of lysosome transport by tau in neurons and alters the distribution of lysosomes in axons.
Similarly, phosphorylation blocks the ability of tau to bind cooperatively in neurons
