To be clear, it looks like the conference organizers called the cops. They may have been worried because Jay Bhattacharya, the pro-Trump NIH director, was scheduled to speak (and he did in fact cancel). Looks like a case of "obeying in advance" - people fearing the state's reaction.
Worth a read. Many have taken note of the growing solidarity in the science community in opposition to the OMB proposed rule. But this must be just the start. For an example, we can look to @sekahn.bsky.social, Justin Ryder & co who spoke up at ADA and were removed for it. 🧵
