Tanuki are pranksters, hard partiers, and lovers of drink, and are often depicted with a sake flask in one hand. They may purchase it with leaves they've transformed to look like money, which then turn back to worthless foliage when they've left the shop. #folklorethursday
There's a shrine in Asakusa, Tokyo to the shapeshifting trickster tanuki - but it’s not because they're a good spiritual role model! 😂 It was built to stop them making mischief in nearby Sensoji Temple and they're said to protect against fire & theft and make business prosper. #FolkloreThursday
