Damn, I rewatched the movie just the other week but was on an EARLY DVD and… did not look like this! Still great tho!
Love to hear it. I found myself crying a bunch by the third act somewhat suddenly and uncontrollably.
My rewatch was inspired by all the Woo bonus content I’ve been devouring where he talks about it SO much! Was not disappointed. But again… will need to make sure to upgrade before my next viewing so it will look like… that. Bc Damn.
DISCLOSURE DAY: Breathlessly yet patiently paced, fueled by a fiercely beating battle cry for empathy even (and especially) as the world burns. Leave it to a master like Spielberg to show what magic and majesty movies can still have if big-budget films can breathe and provoke rather than placate.
It was like a decade ago, but we reviewed every single one of them at Cinapse! Like when the criterion set came out. But we even did remakes and reboots and stuff. I think the only thing we didn’t cover is maybe a tv version that happened at some point?! Love.
I remember loving THE LOST DAUGHTER but THE BRIDE! did not work for me on almost any level. Barely remember the last time it was this hard for me to finish a movie. I’ll give Maggie Gyllenhaal many more chances in the director’s seat but this was a near total miss for me. #TheBride
YES! I was blown away by DD but wasn’t sure if my reaction would be widespread and feel like my feed is indicating other folks were similarly moved.
