When I meet people in the real world, they have 0% - and I mean zero - knowledge of the disaster unfolding in British HE. Even if their kids are actually at uni. They look at me as if I've gone mad. This is why. 👇
AI + publish-or-perish -> huge increase in publications Publication volume becomes meaningless as a metric. Might academia adapt to produce fewer, better papers? substack.com/@journalolog... Or will output continue to increase and we just accept that the only readers are AI agents...? 1/2
