It's kinda like in The Good Place, where Derek can only say "Derek"! Or in Being John Malkovich, where everything is John Malkovich and can only say "Malkovich"!

NO. at that moment, as i said 'well there you go', i briefly locked pupils with a different vegetable-stocking guy (stocking, i think, yams and stuff, i never go to that part of the aisle) who directly across, within earshot, and he gave me the knowingest "this guy.." grin, i swear.
almost 30 seconds passed, i had already gone around the corner from the bananas to the potatoes and gotten 3 potatoes, when i got the guy's attention and asked him - "did you just say willkommen"? because it sounded like "welcome in", but really, i thought he'd said willkommen and it was bugging me.
today at the grocery store as i went to get bananas, there was a guy stocking bananas with the big fruit cart and everything. he had kind of long blond hair and bangs, a very crude sort of medieval pageboy haircut, it stood out. anyways, he said - "welcome in", and i smiled.
he said, "no, I said 'welcome in'", kind of sheepishly. i said, "aha. i just thought you said willkommen", and then he said "well, my father is german, but i don't know very much", and I said "well, there you go". end of strange, impromptu interaction, yes?

With profound sadness we announce the sudden and unexpected death of our Editor-in-Chief, Tim Meese. A founding editor of i-Perception, Tim was a pillar of the vision science community and instrumental in shaping the landscape of scientific publishing in our field.

Your eyeballs are riveted with red blood vessels, which deliver the oxygen eyes need to function. But bird eyes, like those shown here, have no blood vessels in sight. How do they see so well without the help of oxygen? www.quantamagazine.org/how-the-bird...
There is no excuse for staying on that platform. To do so is to express a dangerous level of denialism that invalidates any stated interest in democracy or the rule of law. It is despicable that the entire elite layer of society keeps the door open for him to manipulate them and their audiences.
Great essay by Ted Chiang on consciousness. He nails the centrality of context. "An observation doesn’t become a convincing piece of evidence because of any specific detail in what’s observed; the context in which that observation takes place is also essential." www.theatlantic.com/philosophy/2...
