On this Day, The Pillersdorf Constitution is released. Partially inspired by the US Constitution, it gave civil rights to the Austrian populace, however it excluded many, including non-Germans from the newly formed parliament. By May it collapsed, and Emperor Ferdinand I abdicated in December 1848.
On this day: Austria’s 1938 referendum backed Nazi annexation. Only Mexico protested at the League of Nations. Mexikokirche honors that stand.
