replaying valkyria chronicles 2 in japanese is an even more tremendous way to make me miss 3 than i expected, it turns out
when you don't have a loc to shield you like the meme of the army dude protecting the sleeping kid, you're just alone with your thoughts and that writing as it truly is
man
it still plays like valkyria chronicles and there are few other srpg series out there whose mechanics can hold my attention for as long as all of the vc games have over the years, but
what if i could have good writing AND good mechanics in one package and turns out that exists and it's called vc3 😩
For better or worse, I keep a mental tally of how many copies my biggest credits sell and then try not to go insane thinking about: 1. how much better off I'd be if I got even one-off bonuses equivalent to what I first made and 2. how vanishingly small of a single percent that amount always is lol
i just wanna keep doing what i love in a way that's sustainable and rewards me* for the level of effort and—oftentimes—genre and historical expertise i specifically am hired to bring into my projects, i don't think it's a lot to ask for, but apparently it is 🤷
*ie: lets me buy/build a house with
The game I'd really like this for, which I'm not gonna name but you can make some educated guesses (please keep them to yourselves, though), my napkin math tells me that bonus would be in the neighborhood of 1/5000 of 1% of its revenue. Every time I re-run the math, it feels ridiculous, and yet!
at least raita got to draw some admirable honkers as always
i wouldn't have guessed then that would be 2's only really lasting legacy but considering how keen 3 really is to bury it and almost wholly will itself forget about it except for one tiny stretch, by god, nothing else sure persisted, huh
