That is the kind of work that helps revitalize communities. It’s time to do the same on the commercial side.
Property ownership comes with responsibility. The public shouldn’t bear the cost of neglect.
Congratulations Councillor! Can’t wait to see what you accomplish!
I will have more to say soon, but for now: Thank you for getting out to vote, and making your voice heard. I am so grateful to continue to serve as your councillor for the next four years, and can’t wait to continue building a stronger Edmonton together.
This week, Council has an opportunity to take a stronger approach to derelict commercial sites.
These buildings increase fire risk, create safety hazards, consume a higher amounts of city resources, and hurt local businesses and residents.
Options will be discussed this Thursday.
It’s difficult to put into words how much every action, every volunteer shift, and every donation from hundreds of Edmontonians over these two campaigns means to me. It is humbling and inspiring.
We’ve seen what happens when we hold derelict residential property owners accountable.
Between 2023-25, Edmonton’s problem property initiative influenced 400+ demolitions, with 75% of sites now being redeveloped. Over 300 properties were charged higher tax rates.
This is one of the many reasons why I love our city. People show up. They put in the work. They come together and rally around what we know is possible – not just to make our lives better today, but to leave things a little better for those who come after us.
With 130 volunteers knocking doors since the spring, and spending countless hours dropping flyers, building and delivering signs, and having conversations with their neighbours – this was a people-powered campaign.
As it should be.
I do not take this responsibility lightly. Thank you for placing your trust in me once again. I am ready to get to work immediately on the changes and improvements we have been talking about with neighbours at their front doors and throughout the campaign.
Friends, neighbours, Ward Métis - we did it.
I am so thankful to the voters of Ward Métis who have supported our vision of an Edmonton where everyday people can build extraordinary lives.
I am excited to get back to work for the residents of Ward Métis and all Edmontonians. #yeg #WardMétis #yegcc
