In that context, it's immediately clear both the author and the university reacted to being caught out by **properly lying** about what happened - which is significant!!
I cannot state strongly enough that data centre overdevelopment and the shockingly toxic technology of generative AI should be both be intensely opposed, rather than welcomed on the grounds that they're taxed.

Something important to note IMO is that you cannot upload your own work into copilot and have it only access that. It *always* accesses its entire corpus of training data: so this academic's work was actually, properly stolen!

Also if you read the whole thing it's immediately clear that it was just almost raw text spat out of a GenAI system - there wasn't any sort of 'assistive' stuff going on here.
