Again: these numbers have already been done. Corporations like Netflix, or the industry of streaming services in general, are not building multi-gigawatt city-sized gas-fired power stations because they are fundamentally less harmful in their demand growth than generative AI as an industry
I will never ever not be terrified of the midday alarm / attack tests that happens here

I've been a broken record on this for three years and I'll be a broken record for as long as that fucking website exists: X is a viciously racist far-right organising platform that ONLY WORKS because a huge number of centrists, lefties and progressivs cannot stop propping it up
I cannot state strongly enough that data centre overdevelopment and the shockingly toxic technology of generative AI should be both be intensely opposed, rather than welcomed on the grounds that they're taxed. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Also if you read the whole thing it's immediately clear that it was just almost raw text spat out of a GenAI system - there wasn't any sort of 'assistive' stuff going on here. bsky.app/profile/keta...
Apologies, yes - you're right. But that's not my point - there is just no contesting the fact that streaming, cloud storage, video calls, gaming etc didn't trigger a fossil fuel infrastructure build-out at the scale we are seeing specifically for the purpose of generative AI
