I grew up in strip mall hell on the outskirts of Lansing MI, home of the Oldsmobile. I worked as a professional driver through college then again after I moved to CA. But I couldn’t afford my own car due to low wage work, so I biked & bussed. First out of necessity, then because I loved it.
Our fellow, Colleen Noland, created some short videos to showcase Oaklands investments in bicycling, walking, and rolling infrastructure and organizations. Here is of about the East Bay Greenway, potentially connecting Oakland all the way to Hayward:

Car-free living helped me stabilize my life financially & psychologically, giving me more freedom to take on work that I cared about not only for a paycheck. It helped me discover new places & new people. I want that opportunity for everyone.
