I was once laid off from an indie studio. Whether or not I get to keep making games depends entirely on how successful my previous ones are. So no, indie games are not some magical savior. They’re having a hard enough time saving themselves.
People did things a lot younger back in those days! But knowing Jake, he's probably just making it up.
Hey look, my current publisher has rebranded with a much easier to pronounce name and a new Bluesky handle! Go follow ASH Games: @ashgames.com
Rosewater was mainly influenced visually by Full Throttle, as well as games like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Conquests of the Longbow for the branching storyline. The scene where Phil falls out the window was directly inspired by the movie Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Quite a few! Lamplight City was codenamed "Poe-Dickens" because it was very much inspired by the two authors (there are lots of little references to both their works in the game) And of course I lifted the aesthetic of the conversations from Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers.
There’s already a date for the AGS Awards 2025! This year features major titles like Old Skies, Rosewater, Carnival, and The Beekeeper’s Picnic. It’s going to be a very exciting ceremony! Oh, and The Dark Rites of Arkham is nominated for Best Demo!
I only do storyboarding for closeup cinematics because they require specific shots and camera angles. Otherwise, I build the game first and once I'm sure a section is finalized, I make a checklist of the required animations. The story is usually pretty final from the start, with room for changes.
Definitely had an inkling. That's why the conversation about Harley and Bill thinking about visiting her out west is in the prologue of Lamplight City.
