Just finished talking to students about why the humanities are even more important in this age of AI. Efficiency isn't always the most important goal. Reading carefully and knowing how to think critically is valuable on its own--even if that takes longer.

Research from #CornellILR assistant professor @merrickosborne.bsky.social found that individuals in a morally diverse community tend to believe that the community’s norms are looser. In turn, norm violations are more accepted, and there is a reduced willingness to police transgressions.

Switching gears: I recently told an acquaintance who works in tech that part of learning how to write is about being a really aggressive reader. His response was basically why should I read a long book when I can learn a thing in an efficient short way, etc
