Two for one today…
Best debut of the 2010’s in my opinion
Alvvays - Adult Diversion from their eponymous debut
#5DebutAlbumsSF1
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
Out of tune, full on musical non sequiturs, but absolutely brilliant.
One of the all time great alt-rock albums and a heavy influence on so many other albums I love.

Lambrini Girls - Who let the dogs out?
Between the 2020s vote and now this, I've listened to this four times in a month. With each listen I like it more.
It's in a mad tough group, with a couple of legendary albums, but it could cause an upset.

The Streets - Original Pirate Material
Another innovative album. At the time, Mike Skinner's voice was one that was sorely needed.
Occasionally hard to tell what is in character and what is real, but there were important messages either way.

#5debutalbumsSF1 #albumoftheday Guns 'N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction (1987) Pros - fantastic dirty rock & roll with guitar pyrotechnics that make your neck hairs stand up. Cons - lyrics that make AC/DC look like nursery rhymes. Discuss. Best track - Sweet Child O' Mine #NowPlaying️
#5debutalbumsSF1 Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables (1980) Sarcastic, cruel, acidic hyperpunk release which revitalized the genre. The 2 singles are punk classics but the rest of the buzzsaw, surf rockabilly isn't far behind. I guess we're the vegetables in this scenario. #NowPlaying
#5debutalbumsSF1 Hozier - Hozier (2014) Moody, cavernous new-soul from Ireland's finest voice. A warm gospel feel pervades the album with optimism and hope. Definite valve amp feel about the band. He waited four years before the follow up. #testify #NowPlaying
#albumoftheday #5debutalbumsSF1 X-Ray Spex - Germfree Adolescents (1978) They came and went in a day-glo flash but left a smattering of great 45s and this excellent punk rock album. The themes of consumerism, identity and disposabilty seem prescient. Best track - Identity #NowPIaying
Rich's Album Of The Day
#5debutalbumsSF1 Artic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (2006) . I do like an album that mentions Frank Spencer, just one of dozens of UK pop references that leap out of the speakers and make you smile. The album lived up to the rabid hype. #MardyBum #NowPlaying
