Think about this finding in the context of today’s push for vocational education (mostly for other people’s children)
Disinvestment in public education is one factor for increased household spending on children. Many of these activities were part and parcel of what was offered in schools. Cutting funding for the arts, music, sports, extra-curriculars has meant households who can, will spend out-of-pocket.
