As a writer you have no choice but to accept all these versions of your book, even if they feel quite unfamiliar. The book that someone who's not read your book but confidently tells you that you have written, however? That can always fuck off

When you write a book you actually write several books. There's the one you know you wrote. Then there's the one your readers bring their experiences to. This is a big part of the magic. As soon as it goes out into the world, your book multiplies & becomes many versions of itself, all equally valid.
