I had to stop playing RE2 Remake because while I do like that game, it unfortunately completely pales in comparison to Village. I genuinely think it’s the best Resident Evil game in a decade not including 7. Going through a hardcore run and man it’s so damn fun.
(The bigger reason I stopped playing RE2R is because I played it SO MUCH when it came out that I’ve basically burned myself off of that game for life lol.)
Combat is great. Weapons feel good to use, zombies take a lot of damage while still feeling good to kill, movement is restricted yet reasonably so, the lickers are terrifying and super dangerous, the crafting economy is balanced so it restricts while giving you some close, and Mr X is terrifying.
The swamp and lab just pale in comparison to the RPD level design and visually. They are a massive step down. Certainly not bad, but just disappointing.
That castle section is maybe the peak of the series for me. Just perfectly paced, structured, and visualized. No fat just a perfect area.
I’m curious how the Chris part is executed. I enjoyed it, but switching to his character and just retreading the same ground I was a bit mixed on. I’m also curious if the game retains the brutal difficulty of the original. Like it’s part of the game’s identity, so they should go nuts I think.
