I said years ago that treating it as a secondary feature in Roads to Power was a bad call and, if anything, it should have been the other way around.
Anyway, it's fascinating to have gone on a journey with the same characters from, "OH MY GOD they're so cool I want to be that cool when I grow up" to "I identify with these two so much" to "These fuckin' poor dumbass kids, man, they're gonna give me a heart attack."
Before that I would almost only ever start as a tribal count, preferably with only one county. Anything else is skipping part of the game. I don't understand the appeal of that, personally.
I don't know if it occurred to me until this playthrough how Aerith's mom is one of the realest characters in FF7. Like once you come back with all the context and realize she was like, "Oh god, she brough home another one..." pretty much immediately, she seems like the most rational person ever.
In 1998 or whatever I was just shipping them so hard it made my chest hurt so her perspective seemed distant. But with many years of hindsight I'm like yeah if your daughter came home with another full-grown wolf that looks like the other one she had before that died and broke her heart I'd be upset
Landless adventurers being way more popular than they expected is incredibly unsurprising to me. The only times I've started as a non-adventurer since they were released were when I made custom landless admin characters in China/ERE.

"Hey, hon, do you remember what happened the last time and realize from anyone else's perspective this is incredibly concerning behavior?"
